Fredericksburg EDA Approves 22K in Grants

by | Dec 13, 2014 | Business, Government

The Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority (EDA) has approved $22,000 in grants to support city businesses and events.

Grants include:

$10,000 to Spencer Devon Brewing for exterior improvements to the building at 106 George St.
$4,500 to Alan Furs & Bash Boutique for signage and facade improvements at 804 Caroline St.
$3,000 to the University of Mary Washington Philharmonic Orchestra for the “Fiddlestix Summer Concert Series.” The grant will support the Aug. 9 performance of The Laurie Berkner Band in the William M. Anderson Center.
$2,500 to Stone Holdings LLC/Agora Downtown LLC for work including a ramp and brick walkway at 520 Caroline St., where a coffee shop and cafe is planned.
$2,000 to the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center for a planned quilt exhibit in November and December.

The grants were made under the EDA’s facade improvement, JumpStart!, event sponsorship and arts programs. The EDA receives no taxpayer money but rather is funded through the fees it collects from private organizations in exchange for being the conduit for those groups’ tax-exempt bond issuances.

The recipients will receive the funding as a reimbursement for the work/event as stipulated under the EDA grant. For grants received for exterior building improvements in the downtown historic district, the recipient must perform the work in accordance with standards approved by the city’s Architectural Review Board. All grant projects must comply with city ordinances and permits.

The EDA accepts grant applications four times a year, with deadlines on March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1. More information on the grant program is available on the City of Fredericksburg Economic Development webpage.
