Red Dragon Brewery President Thomas Evans has a personal reason for naming a beer in honor of fallen Fredericksburg Police Officer Todd Bahr. Bahr died in the line of duty on June 6, 2008. Evans was a member of the force.
Todd Bahr’s badge number, 337, was permanently retired by the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) in honor of his sacrifice.
Red Dragon Brewery is releasing 337 SMASH, a single malt, single hop ale, in memory of Bahr, during a Steel the Glass event November 5 and 6, 2016. A portion of the proceeds will go to Law Enforcement United (LEU), “a group of law enforcement, survivors, and civilian supporters who have made it our mission to honor the fallen and remember the survivors.”
“This is a worthy cause,” Evans said.
Evans has lost two law enforcement friends. He graduated from the police academy with Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff Dean Ridings who died June 19, 2010.
“I wholeheartedly support law enforcement and their families,” Evans said. “I know what it’s like being an officer, the stress and struggles that they face. There has been a lot of negativity toward law enforcement, but without their dedication, our community would be in chaos.”
Red Dragon Brewery’s Steal the Glass event will be held 12 – 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, and 4 – 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. Customers can take home a LEU/Red Dragon Brewery limited-edition glass.
The brewery is also staring a wall of honor, on which public service and military personnel can post their agency patches.
