Fredericksburg’s Spencer Devon Brewing has hired Jeff Hyatt as their new head brewer.

Hyatt, who was most recently a brewer at Lanikai Brewing Company, in Kailua, Hawaii, brings 20 years of leadership experience to Spencer Devon, according to owner Shawn Phillips.

He’s also worked as head brewer at Service Brewing Company in Savannah, Georgia; and cellarman at Bold City Brewery in Jacksonville, Florida.

Hyatt’s goal is to continue to brew high quality beer using locally sourced ingredients, when available.

“I have a passion for craft beer, and it’s one of the things that fuels my enthusiasm each and every day,” Hyatt said. “I also believe the culinary aspect and potential of beer with food is the future of craft beer. “

Hyatt will work alongside Executive Chef Tommy Abbott to brew beer that complements the restaurant’s menu.

His first beers, The Royston Rye IPA and the “Great-Sir” Gräetzer, are now available on tap.
