Three Washington Heritage Museums (WHM) properties will be open extended hours the week between Christmas and New Year’s 2016.

Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, Mary Washington House, and Rising Sun Tavern will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, through Friday, Dec. 30.

“It’s a beautiful time of year to tour,” said WHM Executive Director Anne Darron. “The museums are adorned inside and out with holiday decorations provided by local garden clubs including the Town & Country Garden Club, the Sunlight Garden Club, and the Fawn Lake Garden Club,” she said.

“It may be cold outside, but inside the museums you will be warmly greeted by guides dressed in period clothing. The museums are a wonderful place to take your holiday guests.”

The museums are located as follows:

– Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop, 1020 Caroline St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401

– Mary Washington House, 1200 Charles St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401

– Rising Sun Tavern, 1304 Caroline St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401

WHM’s fourth museum, St. James’ House, is a private residence, and only opened to the public twice annually — one week in the spring and one week in the fall.

Admission to the museums is $5 for adults; $2 for children age 6 – 18; and free for children under 6. Discounts are available for groups of 8 or more and AAA members.

Washington Heritage Museums is a 501(c)3 membership organization established to assume ownership and management of four historic house museums in downtown Fredericksburg.
