By Suzanne Scherr

Artist Ed King, marking his 19th year as a member of Art First Gallery, is the featured artist there for March 2017.

King’s “Critters and Stuff” show opens with a reception on First Friday, March 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibit will be on view 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily through March.

With strong and sure brushstrokes, King paints in a recognizable style, honed over decades spent painting and sculpting.

HIs work and accessible teaching style are well known throughout Fredericksburg and surrounding counties.

King is personally acquainted with many of the critters he paints, as he worked on a farm and paints from life in nature.

He earned his Master of Fine Art from Pratt Institute in New York City, and also studied at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

He teaches at Germanna Community College, LibertyTown Arts Workshop in Fredericksburg, and The Arts Center in Orange, Virginia.

Art First is located at 824 Caroline St, in downtown Fredericksburg.
