Obituary

“Son of St. Patrick,” husband, father, granddad James J. O’Connor, 86, passed suddenly to the abode of his Father, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at his Spotsylvania home.

In 1955 he earned a bachelor’s of science in business from John Carroll University on an ROTC scholarship. After flight school and two tours in Vietnam, he retired as Lt. Col. U.S. Army in 1976. Jim forged a second career as realtor then broker/manager before settling in Spotsylvania in 1991. The last three decades of his life included catechizing in CCD programs in Woodbridge and Fredericksburg, and serving as a Distinguished Speaker in Toastmaster International.

Jim is remembered as kind, patient, and joyous and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Billie O’Connor; two children William O’Connor (Teresa) and Angela Klaus (David); and grandchildren Christopher, Joseph, Catalina, and Teresa O’Connor and Caleb and Colton Klaus.

A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Visitation will follow until 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
