VDOT Hot Spots in the Fredericksburg Region April 9 – 15

VDOT hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George for April 9 – 15, 2017. All work has been scheduled weather permitting. Real-time information on work zones and lane closures is available on 511Virginia.org.

City of Fredericksburg
Route 3 at Route 1 Interchange
Tuesday, 8 p.m. − 5 a.m. Route 3 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at the Route 1 interchange for utility work. Additionally, the Route 1 northbound exit ramp to Route 3 westbound will be closed at the interchange from midnight to 3 a.m. Wednesday. Motorists should follow posted detour route signs.

Route 1 at Mary Washington Boulevard
Sunday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. Route 1 northbound and southbound will be reduced to a single lane near Mary Washington Boulevard. On Sunday evening, crews will be installing vehicle detection equipment for traffic signal operations. On Monday through Thursday evenings, crews will be paving Route 1. Expect delays through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent single lane closures and flagging operations at intersections for paving on Fall Hill Avenue between Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard and Rappahannock Canal.

Sunday and Wednesday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m. Motorists should be alert for a flagging operation at the roundabout on Fall Hill Avenue at the intersection with the new Mary Washington Boulevard extension. Crews will be paving the roundabout.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Northbound
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. Interstate 95 northbound will be reduced to two lanes between Exit 140/Courthouse Road and Exit 143/Garrisonville Road. Crews are building foundations needed to install overhead signs connected with the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension project.

Interstate 95 Northbound
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. Mobile single lane closures on I-95 northbound between Exit 133/Route 17 and Exit 143/Garrisonville Road. A crew will be collecting soil samples as part of the I-95/Courthouse Road interchange relocation and widening project.

Interstate 95 Southbound
Tuesday, 4 a.m. – 8 a.m. Interstate 95 southbound will be reduced to two lanes between Exit 143/Garrisonville Road and Exit 140/Courthouse Road. Delivery of materials needed to build a noise barrier as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus Extension project.

Interstate 95 Southbound
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. Mobile single lane closures on I-95 southbound between Exit 133/Route 17 and Exit 143/Garrisonville Road. A crew will be collecting soil samples as part of the I-95/Courthouse Road interchange relocation and widening project.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Onville Road
Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Double lane closures on Garrisonville Road, eastbound and westbound, for paving and final construction activities at the Onville Road intersection. Lane closures will be mobile, and the traffic pattern will shift as work progresses. All new turn lanes at the intersection are anticipated to be open by Wednesday, April 12.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane. Crews will be conducting pipe work to install a new drainage system. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) ˗˗ ditch cleaning operations
Route 3 (Kings Highway) ˗˗ pothole patching, debris pickup
Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) ˗˗ pothole patching
Route 608 (Brooke Road) ˗˗ maintenance work
Route 642 (Barrett Heights Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs, ditch cleaning operations

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Route 1 southbound will be reduced to one lane at the intersection with Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road), as crews work to improve the intersection. Crews are working to add and extend turn lanes.

Route 1 and Route 620 (Harrison Road) Intersection
Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Route 620 (Harrison Road) eastbound traffic will be shifted onto new asphalt shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the project work zone. Motorists should follow direction from the flagging crew. Additionally, Route 1 southbound will be reduced to one lane at the intersection between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for traffic signal equipment work.

Harrison Road westbound traffic will remain in the existing westbound lane. The traffic shift is needed to allows crews to work on the project’s new median. This work is part of the project to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection.

Crystal Lakes
Monday − Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Paving will be underway in the Crystal Lakes subdivision. Motorists should be alert for mobile, single lane closures, and for crews and equipment.

Lancaster Gate
Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. – noon. Milling and paving work will be underway in the Lancaster Gate subdivision. Motorists should be alert for mobile, single lane closures, and for crews and equipment.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:
Route 3 (Plank Road) ˗˗ debris pickup
Route 605 (Marye Road) ˗˗ pothole patching
Route 612 (Catharpin Road) ˗˗ pothole patching

Route 301 (South Main Street)
Thursday, 8 a.m. − 2:30 p.m. Route 301 northbound and southbound reduced to a single lane for shoulder repairs.

Monday − Thursday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 a.m. – noon. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
Tuesday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗6:30 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound at the bridge over the Rappahannock River for work related to the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

Route 301 (South Main Street)
Thursday, 8 a.m. − 2:30 p.m. Route 301 northbound and southbound reduced to a single lane for shoulder repairs.

King George County
Route 694 (Lambs Creek Road)
Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane for paving between Igo Road and Caledon Road. Motorists should follow direction the flagging crew.
