Foster care group collects items for children going into care

FREDERICKSBURG, VA– May is National Foster Care Month, and for the entire month of May Embrace Treatment Foster Care is partnering with the local YMCA locations and SimVentions collecting items children need most when they enter the foster care system.

According to Gretchen Rusdent, Embrace Treatment Foster Care Recruitment Coordinator, when a child is removed from their home because of abuse or neglect the few personal belongings they own are placed in a large black garbage bag. In Northern Virginia, 1,200 foster children are faced with this inability to transport the few items they have.

“Embrace Treatment Foster Care is working toward ensuring each and every child has critical items they need when joining one of our loving and stable homes,” Rusden said. “We are asking the community to help by dropping off new backpacks, hygiene products, stuffed animals, games, activities and books at SimeVentions or the Ron Rosner or Massad Family YMCA here in Fredericksburg. Help us celebrate National Foster Care Month by showing foster children they deserve more.”
