The National Alliance on Mental Illness—Rappahannock affiliate is offering a Peer-to-Peer educational program for adults with serious mental illness who are active in recovery. The 10-week course will meet on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Kenmore Club, 632 Kenmore Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The session begins Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 and will end Nov. 21. There will not be a session on Nov. 14. This free course will focus on preventing relapses, coping with mental illness and solving problems as they arise.

The course is led by trained mentors who personally live with a mental illness and are active in recovery.

“These sessions combine the power of experience with education,” said Brian Jackson, class facilitator. “Mentors provide real-life examples that recovery is achievable—and they offer participants the tools needed to make it happen.”

Community members interested in registering for the course or learning more about the Peer-to-Peer educational program should contact Jackson, Ronnie Warner or Lisa Dunn at 540-373-7737.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help group which offers support and advocacy to individuals with mental illness, families, and friends of people with various mental illnesses

The local affiliate, NAMI-Rappahannock, meets the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Kenmore Club. Following an organizational meeting, separate support groups are held for family members and individuals living with mental illness. For details, visit http://namirapp.com.
