Interstate 95 (Southern Terminus Extension Project)

Construction is underway to extend 95 Express Lanes in Stafford County. The approximate 2.5 mile extension will carry traffic beyond the flyover ramp where 95 Express Lanes currently end, just north of Exit 143/Route 610 (Garrisonville Road). Motorists should expect the following lane closures and delays:

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road)

(New) I-95 Southbound: Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. A single, left lane on I-95 southbound will be closed near Exit 143 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier on the Express Lanes southbound ramp.

(New) I-95 Northbound: Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. A single, left lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 143 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier on the Express Lanes nothbound ramp.

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

(New) I-95 Northbound: Thursday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single, left lane on I-95 northbound will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier and trim trees on the Express Lanes near the interchange.

 

Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located along the I-95 corridor in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek Bridge at mile marker 137

The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.

  • I-95 Northbound: Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

9 p.m. – one lane closed

10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed each day

All lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m. Friday

  • I-95 Southbound: Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

9 p.m. – one lane closed

10 p.m. – 6 a.m. – two lanes closed each day

All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Saturday

Spotsylvania County: I-95 Bridge over Ni River Bridge at mile marker 121

The I-95 bridges over the Ni River are located just south of Exit 126/Massaponax at mile marker 121.

I-95 Northbound: Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.

9 p.m. –  one lane closed

10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed

All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. each morning.

I-95 Southbound: Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.

9 p.m. – one lane closed

10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed

4:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. one lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. Thursday morning except on Friday till 6 a.m.

 

Interstate 95 (Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg) Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in the city of Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park Shopping area.

Exit 130B (Route 3/Fredericksburg)

(New) Wednesday, 9 p.m . ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on the off-ramp at Exit 130 from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 to Carl D. Silver Parkway. At midnight on Wednesday, a total closure of the Exit 130 B ramp will be needed to allow crews to remove overhead signs at the interchange.  A detour will be in place with signage to direct drivers from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 by using Exit 130A and make a U-turn at Gateway Boulevard. The ramp will reopen at 3 a.m. on Thursday and the detour will be lifted.  A single lane will remain closed on the off-ramp from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday.

Route 3 (Plank Road)

(New) Sunday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m. A single left lane on Route 3 eastbound and westbound will be blocked to allow crews to work safely in the median for this project. All eastbound lanes will reopen at 4 a.m., while the left westbound lane will remain blocked until 9 a.m.

  • Route 3 Westbound: Monday – Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m.

10 p.m. – one lane closed

Midnight –7 a.m. – two lanes closed

7 a.m. – 9 a.m. – one lane closed Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

 

Interstate 95 Bridge Repairs and Maintenance

Stafford County: American Legion Bridge over I-95 at mile marker 138

The American Legion bridge over I-95 is located at mile marker 138, which is in between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road).  Crews will be making repairs to the bridge, which will require double lane closures.

I-95 Northbound: Sunday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.

9 p.m. – one lane closed

Midnight – 4: 30 a.m. – two lanes closed

All lanes will reopen at 4:30 Monday morning.

 

Stafford County Work Zones

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect a single lane on eastbound Route 3 to be blocked near the Ferry Road intersection to the Blue and Gray Parkway interchange for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 17 Northbound and Southbound

Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.  Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 northbound and southbound at Cardinal Forest Drive and Village Parkway for traffic signal work. Expect brief delays.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

(New) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.   Motorists can expect alternating, single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shelton Shop Road to Furnace Road for a milling and paving operation. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface and bumps. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. each morning.

(Update) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating, single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (from Mine Road to the I-95 interchange for a milling and paving operation. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Shenandoah Lane

Sunday ˗˗ Saturday, 8 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane for a milling and paving operation. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 628 (American Legion Road)

(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Monday,  9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. Expect one-way, alternating traffic on American Legion Road to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge over I-95. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

Monday ˗˗ Thursday,  8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. , and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Monument Drive for clearing/trimming trees, installing concrete barrier and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect delays.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

City of Fredericksburg Work Zones

Route 3 (Blue and Gray Parkway)

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m., Expect a single, right lane closed on Blue and Gray Parkway, eastbound Monday and Tuesday, westbound Wednesday and Thursday from Sophia Street to River Road for a bridge inspection.

Fall Hill Avenue

(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Motorists should be alert to crews and construction equipment on Fall Hill Avenue near Heritage Park Drive. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection at times with trucks entering and exiting the area near the stormwater management pond. Expect brief delays.

Mary Washington Boulevard

(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Expect a single right lane to be blocked on eastbound Mary Washington Boulevard from the Fall Hill Avenue traffic circle to Hospital Drive to allow crews to make repairs to the retaining wall. Expect brief delays.

 

Spotsylvania County Work Zones

Route 3 at Spotsylvania Town Center

(New) Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4 a.m. A single right turn lane from Spotsylvania Town Center to eastbound Route 3 will be blocked to allow crews to make repairs to a crash cushion near the intersection. A complete closure will be necessary up to 30 minutes to allow crews to move large equipment. Motorists may use Bragg Road to exit Spotsylvania Town Center to eastbound Route 3.

Route 17 Southbound

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m .˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 17 (Mills Drive) near Benchmark Road to eastbound Route 3 for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 649 (Seays Road) CLOSED

Seays Road is closed to through traffic to replace a structurally deficient bridge over Glady Run.  The bridge is located between Robert E. Lee Drive and Mastin Lane.  A detour will be in place along the recommended detour route, which is approximately ten miles. The project is expected to take at least eight weeks to complete.

Route 656 (Towles Mill Road)

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m .˗˗ 4 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Towles Mill Road near Dickerson Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Subdivision Street Paving

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 8 a.m .˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations in several neighborhoods in the Lee’s Hill area off Mine Road for a paving operation. Crews will begin by working to repair pavement in Watford Village, Cavalry Ridge and Lee’s Crossing subdivisions. This project will improve the ride for motorists and enhance the condition of the streets with new asphalt after pavement repairs are made. Expect brief delays.

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Rogers Clark Boulevard near the on- and off-ramps to Interstate 95 for traffic signal work. Expect brief delays.

Route 301 Southbound

(Update) Monday − Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 301 from the north end of the bridge over Campbell Road on Fort A.P. Hill to the south end of the bridge over Peumansend Creek for a paving operation. Expect brief delays.

Monday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 301 near Dry Bridge Road and Burkes Bridge Road for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 601 (Golansville Road)

(Update) Monday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Golansville Road near Rogers Clark Boulevard intersection for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection. Expect brief delays.

(Update) Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗6:30 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound from near the bridge over the Rappahannock River for the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

 

Essex County Work Zones

Route 360

(New) Wednesday  − Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on westbound Route 360 from the King and Queen County line to Gordon Mill Road for a paving operation. Expect brief delays.

 

Gloucester County Work Zones

Secondary Route Paving

(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various, low-volume secondary routes throughout Gloucester County for a paving operation. Routes to be surfaced treated include: 605, 618, 710, 730 and 731.

Route 610 (Salem Church Road)

(Update) Monday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Salem Church Road near Cedar Lake Bridge for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 616 (Belroi Road)

Monday − Friday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Belroi Road near Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway) for utility and permit work.  Crews will be replacing utility poles. Expect brief delays.

 

King George County Work Zone

Route 3

(New) Monday − Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on westbound Route 3 between Port Conway Road and Comorn Road for a paving operation. Motorists may experience a rough travel surface and bumps. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

 

King and Queen County Work Zones

Secondary Route Paving

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various, low-volume secondary routes throughout King and Queen County for a paving operation. Routes to be surfaced treated include: 602, 603, 616, 617, 627, 631, and 633.

Route 611 (Tastine Road) CLOSED

Tastine Road is closed to through traffic while crews replace the existing underground culverts. Crews will replace three culverts located under Tastine Road at Tastine Swamp. The existing corrugated metal pipes will be upgraded to reinforced concrete pipes. Motorists should use the most convenient alternate route while work is underway. Work is expected to be complete in late September.

 

King William County Work Zone

Route 721

(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 721 at the bridge over Chapel Hill Swamp to allow crews to make repairs to the bridge. Expect brief delays.

 

Lancaster County/Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 3 and Robert O. Norris Bridge

(Update) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Drivers on Route 3 crossing the Norris Bridge should expect delays as crews make structural steel repairs in conjunction with the painting project. Drivers will encounter one-way, alternating traffic on the bridge controlled by automatic flagging stations.  The temporary traffic signals on the bridge will be placed in flash mode during the work zone.

Richmond County Work Zone

Route 360 Eastbound

(New) Tuesday − Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on eastbound Route 360 near the Downing Bridge to Newland Road for a paving operation. Expect brief delays.

 

Westmoreland County Work Zones

Route 360

(New) Monday − Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 360 near Grainery Road for a paving operation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 642 (Baynesville Road) CLOSED

Baynesville Road is closed to through traffic to allow crews to replace a structurally deficient bridge over the Big Swamp. The bridge is located between Rt. 3 (Kings Highway) and Route 691 (Northernmost Road). A detour is in place along the recommended detour, which is approximately nine miles to include Flat Iron Road and Route 3. The project is expected to be complete in eight weeks.
