Multiple work zones on I-95 this week

Motorists should anticipate overnight travel delays and double lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound for multiple work zones this week in the Fredericksburg area beginning tonight, Oct. 2 through early Saturday, Oct. 7.

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

Interstate 95 Southbound

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) Stafford County
o Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m.

§ A single, left lane will be closed near Exit 143 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier on the Express Lanes southbound ramp as part of the Southern Terminus Extension Project.

Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed at the bridge until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) Full Ramp Closure
Wednesday, Midnight until 3 a .m.
A total closure of the Exit 130 off-ramp will be needed to allow crews to remove overhead signs at the interchange as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. A detour will be in place for southbound traffic to Route 3 eastbound then make a U-turn at Gateway Boulevard to westbound Route 3. The ramp will reopen at 3 a.m. on Thursday and the detour will be lifted.
Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m.
The Exit 130 off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 at Carl D. Silver Parkway. All lanes will reopen on Friday at 9 a.m.

Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County
Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. as crews continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.
Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
A single lane will close at 10 p.m. at the Ni River Bridge followed by a double lane closure at midnight till 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Exit 118 (Route 606/Mudd Tavern Road) Spotsylvania County
Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
A single lane will close at 9 p.m. near the Exit 118 interchange to allow crews to install concrete barrier as construction begins to enhance safety, reduce congestion and build a new bridge over I-95.

Interstate 95 Northbound

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) Stafford County
o Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

§ A single, left lane will be closed near Exit 143 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier on the Express Lanes northbound ramp as part of the Southern Extension Project.

Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Stafford County
o Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

§ A single, left lane will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to remove concrete barrier and trim trees on the Express Lanes as part of the Southern Extension Project.

Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County
Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m.

Wednesday, 9:00 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. and Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m.
A single lane will close at 9 p.m. near the Exit 118 interchange to allow crews to install concrete barrier as construction begins to enhance safety, reduce congestion and build a new bridge over I-95.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control and monitor traffic conditions with all the work zones.

Message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.

Drivers may use Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) as an alternate route.
