The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) are hosting a breakfast discussion in Fredericksburg on issues facing local rivers and the Bay ahead of this fall’s elections for Virginia’s Governor and House of Delegates. The Clean Water Breakfast will be held on Monday, October 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fredericksburg Regional Library at 1201 Caroline Street.

Speakers from CBF and FOR will discuss the health of the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay, as well as the challenges facing Virginia’s next governor to improve water quality, enhance fisheries, and expand wildlife habitat.

“While there is good news and we are making progress, there is still a long way to go to restore the health of our waterways,” said CBF Virginia Director of Outreach and Advocacy Ann Jurczyk. “Commitment from state legislators and Virginia’s next Governor will be essential to reach our clean water goals. With the right policies and continued investment, together we can reduce pollution, restore oysters and other iconic fisheries, and strengthen local communities.”

FOR Executive Director Kathleen Harrigan encourages community members from across the Fredericksburg region to come to the breakfast discussion. “Every one of us has a role to play in protecting and restoring the Rappahannock River and the other tributaries to the Chesapeake Bay,” she said. “We each have a voice that should be heard by our elected officials and we can each take actions at our homes, in our neighborhoods, and for our communities to protect and restore our waterways. This event is a way to learn more about how you can be a voice and active force for the health and scenic beauty of the Rappahannock River.”

A light breakfast will be available for free. Registration is required in advance through the web site www.cbf.org/cwbreakfast-va
