Paper flyers calling Martin Luther King Jr. a communist were left in plastic baggies filled with birdseed in Braehead Woods and Confederate Ridge driveways overnight.
The flyers advertised the Ku Klux Klan and contained a Web address, a North Carolina phone number and a North Carolina PO Box address.
Fredericksburg resident Rhonda O’Kelley said she was so upset by the flyers that she and her daughter drove around and collected as many as they could find to throw away. Other residents also collected the flyers from their neighbor’s driveways in the morning hours.
Flyers with the same Web address on them were distributed at Halloween in Leesburg, and there have been similar distributions in Spotsylvania earlier this year.
