From Stafford County Public Schools

Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. W. Bruce Benson released on
Tuesday, January 16, 2018, the superintendent’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 proposed funding request of
$295,620,402.00. This is a 5.9 percent increase over the FY 2018 budget. There is a $12 million
funding gap. The superintendent’s budget continues to justify projected expenditures and is
designed to support the division’s strategic and division budget goals. SCPS would like to
attract more teachers, despite a shrinking pool nationally. SCPS needs a larger budget
because the division is growing.
“We are steadfast in our efforts to move the division forward and meet the needs of our
growing student population. SCPS teachers, administrators and staff are committed to
inspiring and empowering students for success in further education, work and citizenship,” said
Dr. Benson.
Goals:
● Support student achievement
● Reduce class size
● Provide market-based compensation systems for all SCPS employees
● Improve technology, maintenance and operations
Priorities:
● Establish a funding agreement with Board of Supervisors
● Teacher and Employee Compensation
● Implement priority staffing standards
● Instructional Curriculum/Program and Personnel Alignment
● Standardized Budget Building Process
● Monitor spending and revenue
