Where to catch a show

Theater in and around Fredericksburg might be closer than you think. There are several places to see live performances in the area. Many people are familiar with Riverside Center for the Performing Arts (95 Riverside Pkwy, Fredericksburg, VA) where you can get dinner, and participate in an interactive program, all at the same time. Riverside is currently playing Mamma Mia through March 4th.

If you are interested in checking out multiple local acts, you may also want to consider attending a show at The University of Mary Washington (1913 College Ave, Fredericksburg, VA), with their theater program. If you’re up for being an usher, you can sometimes watch a show for free, in exchange. Not only do you get to take in a show, but you get to support local college students who may be working towards building a theatrical career.

Another local favorite is the Christian Youth Theater (various locations). Their shows play throughout the year, and here again, your patronage supports a program for youngsters pursuing their acting talent. Some of the shows on their website currently includes, The Lion King, Godspell, and Les Misérables.

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, you can trek out to Washington D.C. to the Kennedy Center (2700 F Street, NW Washington, DC 20566) to take in some theater, or even some opera. All the world’s a stage, and Fredericksburg is not excluded from that. We have a handful of opportunities to catch entertaining live performances in our own backyard, and just a little way down the road.

Where will you start exploring the options?
