Notice of Temporary Closure of Lansdowne Road April 9 – 27

The City of Fredericksburg will have an emergency road project underway that will close Lansdowne Road to through traffic from April 9-27, 2018.
While the detour is in place, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will adjust traffic signal timing patterns to accommodate the expected traffic increase in Spotsylvania County at the following intersections:
  • Route 1 and Mine Road
  • Route 2/Route 17 Business (Tidewater Trail) and Benchmark Road
  • Mine Road and Lansdowne Road
  • Mine Road and Falcon Drive
  • Mine Road and Hardwood Lane

Why: A sinkhole was discovered at the edge of the roadway and repairs need to be made as soon as possible to prevent the problem from affecting the travel lanes.

Where: Midway between Route 2 & 17 (Tidewater Trail) and the CSX Railroad crossing. It is near the entrance to the El Rodeo restaurant.

When: Lansdowne Road will be closed beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9 and will remain closed until the project is completed. Work is anticipated to take three weeks to complete.

The detour route(s) will be as follows:

To reach destinations west of the CSX Railroad tracks, up to and including Kloke Group/Mayflower Van Lines:

  • Follow Tidewater Trail – Route 2 & 17 southbound to Benchmark Road (Route 608)
  • Make right onto westbound Benchmark Road • Make a right onto Mine Road (Route 636)
  • Make a right onto Lansdowne Road (Route 638)
  • Follow Lansdowne Road to destination point

To reach destinations east of the closure point, including Airport Avenue & El Rodeo restaurant:

  • Follow southbound Lansdowne Road to Mine Road (Route 636)
  • Make a left onto southbound Mine Road
  • Make a left onto Benchmark Road (Route 608)
  • Make a left onto Tidewater Trail – Route 2 & 17
  • Make a left onto Lansdowne Road
  • Follow Lansdowne Road to destination point

Lansdowne Road will be closed to THRU-TRAFFIC at Tidewater Trail (Route 2 & 17). Ingress/egress to El Rodeo restaurant will be permitted from Tidewater Trail and Airport Avenue.
