Districtwide Flashing Yellow Arrow Project

(Update) Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be working at the following intersections to install flashing yellow arrows at several traffic signals in the Fredericksburg District to help drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic.  Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will also assist with traffic control.  Expect brief delays near the following intersections.

Stafford County

o   Rt. 1/Jefferson Davis Hwy. at Rt. 628/American Legion Rd. and Rt. 628/Eskimo Hill Rd.

o   Rt. 1/Jefferson Davis Hwy. at Rt. 2188/Port Aquia Dr., Entrance to St. William of York Church

o   Rt. 1/Jefferson Davis Hwy. at Acadia St.

o   Rt. 3/Kings Hwy. and Rt. 607/Cool Springs Rd. and Rt. 607/Jett Dr.

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound

(New) Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane on I-95 northbound to be closed.  All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

Interstate 95 Southbound

(New) Monday – Tuesday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Two lanes will close at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. the following morning. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

(New) Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.  Expect a single lane on I-95 southbound to be closed.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working near the I-95/Exit 140 interchange.

Monday –  Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project.

Ramoth Church Road at Courthouse Road

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Ramoth Church Road from Courthouse Road to Dog Patch Lane for grading and pipe work. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Reids Road at Courthouse Road

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Reids Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone.

Snowbird Lane at Courthouse Road

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Snowbird Lane at Courthouse Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone. Flaggers will direct drivers at the intersection.

Wyche Road at Courthouse Road

 Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Wyche Road at Courthouse Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone. Flaggers will direct drivers at the intersection.

Woodcutters Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive.

Winding Creek Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday,  9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the interchange and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137

The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.

  • I-95 Northbound:
  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Saturday
  • 9 p.m. – one lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • 4:30 a.m. All lanes will reopen except on Saturday morning when all lanes will reopen at 5 a.m.
  • I-95 Southbound:

o   Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m. Saturday

  • 9 p.m. – one lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • 4:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. single lane will remain closed
  • On Saturday, all lanes will reopen at 7 a.m.

 

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park shopping area.

Route 3 Westbound

Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m.  Expect a left lane and shoulder to be closed on Route 3 westbound near the Central Park intersection.

Route 3 Eastbound

(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4 a.m. Expect a single left turn lane on Route 3 eastbound at Carl D. Silver Parkway to be closed. This is the left turn lane to Central Park’s main entrance.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) at the I-95 overpass for storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Mallard Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road for storm sewer installation. Motorists should expect brief delays. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Stafford County Work Zones

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 133

(New) Tuesday, 10 p.m. – 11 p.m. Expect double lane closures on I-95 southbound near Exit 133/Route 17 to allow crews to repair an overhead sign near the interchange. Expect overnight delays.

Route 17 Northbound

(New) Monday Sunday, April 29, 12 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. Friday, 12 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. and 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m., Saturday – Sunday, 12 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 17 northbound near the I-95 interchange to allow crews to take soil samples.

 

Route 17 Southbound

(New) Monday Sunday, April 29, 12 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. Friday, 12 a.m. to 11:59 a.m. and 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m., Saturday – Sunday, 12 a.m. – 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 17 southbound between Sanford Drive and Short Street to allow crews to take soil samples.

Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)

Sunday – Monday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Centreport Parkway near the bridge approaches and on the bridges over I-95 for repairs. Expect brief delays.

City of Fredericksburg Work Zone

Mary Washington Boulevard

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Mary Washington Boulevard in both directions between Fall Hill Avenue and Hospital Drive to allow crews to work safely in the median. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Lansdowne Road

The City of Fredericksburg will have an emergency road project underway that will close Lansdowne Road to through traffic until April 27.

While the detour is in place, VDOT will adjust traffic signal timing patterns to accommodate the expected traffic increase in Spotsylvania County at the following intersections:

  • Route 1 and Mine Road
  • Route 2/Route 17 Business (Tidewater Trail) and Benchmark Road
  • Mine Road and Lansdowne Road
  • Mine Road and Falcon Drive
  • Mine Road and Hardwood Lane

Spotsylvania County Work Zone

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 126/Massaponax

(Update) Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a single lane on I-95 southbound near Exit 126/Massaponax to close at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Crews will continue repairs to the bridge over Route 1. Expect overnight delays.

Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway)

(New) Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 p.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound between Route 749/Old Telegraph Road and Route 711/Southpoint Parkway for milling and paving operations. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road) between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Patriot Lane for pipe work. Access to driveways will be maintained for residents who live in this section of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 612 (Catharpin Road)

(Update) Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 612/Catharpin Road near Route 608/Robert E. Lee Drive and Route 613/Brock to allow crews to place shoulder stone. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 616 (Ford Road)

(Update) Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 616/US Ford Road near Route 610/Ely’s Ford Road and Route 620/Spotswood Furnace Road to allow crews to place shoulder stone. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 621 (Orange Plank Road)

(Update) Monday – Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 621/Orange Plank Road near Route 611/Windy Acres Drive and Route 613/Brock Road for paving. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) – storm drain work
  • Route 608 (West Catharpin Road) – debris pickup
  • Route 642 (Woolfolk Road) – maintenance
  • Route 668 (Summit Crossing Road) – vegetation control

Caroline County Work Zones

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) – shoulder repairs
  • Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) – ditch cleaning, shoulder repairs
  • Route 601 (Golansville Road) – pavement repairs
  • Route 608 (Seals Road) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 643 (File Road) – shoulder repairs
  • Route 671 (Goose Hill Road) – paving

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone

Route 301 at Rappahannock River (James Madison Bridge)

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound from near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge inspection work. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.

King George County Work Zone

Route 623 (Jersey Road)

(Update) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating one-way traffic on Route 623/Jersey Road between Shiloh Loop and Welcome Road for pavement patching. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 614 (Owens Drive)

(Update) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating one-way traffic on Route 614/Owens Drive between Route 301/James Madison Parkway and Mathias Point Road for pavement patching. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

King William County Work Zone

Route 604 (Herring Creek Road) CLOSED

Herring Creek Road is closed to through traffic between Route 628 (Dorrell Road) and Route 609 (Smokey Road) to allow crews to remove deteriorated corrugated metal pipes from underneath the road near Dorrell Creek. Crews will then install new concrete pipes and endwalls. Signs are posted along the recommended detour, which is approximately eight miles: Rt. 609/Smokey Road, Rt. 608/Locust Hill Road and Rt. 628/Dorrell Road. Weather permitting, work is expected to be complete and the road will reopen to traffic on Wednesday, May 2.

Lancaster County/Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 3 at Robert O. Norris Bridge 

(New) Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect brief traffic stops of 5 minutes or less on both bridge approaches. Crews will be positioning materials and equipment needed to install poles to support the future installation of 511Virginia traffic cameras at the Norris Bridge. Traffic cameras will be installed later in 2018. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Work will begin at 9 a.m. in Middlesex, and will progress to the Lancaster side of the bridge.

Mathews County Work Zone

Route 14 (Main Street)

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. A single lane on Route 14/Main Street will be closed between Church Street and Buckley Hall Road to allow crews to install new drainage pipes underneath the road as part of the Mathews Courthouse Area Drainage Project. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Middlesex County Work Zone

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 17/Tidewater Trail near Route 602/Old Virginia Street and Route 33/General Puller Highway for paving. Expect brief delays.

Northumberland County Work Zone

Route 644/Hacks Neck Road

(New) Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 644/Hacks Neck Road at the following intersections, Lighthouse View Drive and Gonyon Road for a mobile operation. Crews will be removing some pavement markings. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Richmond County Work Zone

Route 3 at Route 608 (Farnham Creek Road)

Monday˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Temporary traffic signals have been activated in the work zone of an ongoing emergency pipe improvement project on Route 3 over Laton’s Swamp. Route 3 has been reduced to a single lane just west of the intersection with Route 608 (Farnham Creek Road). The temporary traffic signals control one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone until the project is complete. Project completion is May 29, 2018.

Richmond County Surface Treatment

(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. Motorists should anticipate lane closures or alternating traffic with flagging operations on various, low-volume secondary routes throughout Richmond County including the following routes: 614, 618, 626, 642, 658, 660, 678 and 679 for surface treatment. Expect brief delays.

Westmoreland County Work Zone

Route 626/Herring Lane

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 626/Herring Lane near Route 1501/Glebe Harbor Drive and Route 1530/Royal Way for a paving operation. Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Route 645/Zacata Road

(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 645/Zacata Road near Route 3/Kings Highway and Route 709/Meadow Drive for a paving operation. Expect brief delays near the work zone.
