Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 118

(New) Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  A single, left lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at the interchange for construction activities. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Southbound Off-Ramp

(New) Monday – Thursday9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., The Exit 118 off-ramp which carries traffic from I-95 southbound to Mudd Tavern Road will be narrowed slightly. The ramp will remain open. Drivers should be alert to construction crews and equipment working along the shoulder of the ramp.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Monday – Thursday9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) at the I-95 overpass for interchange and bridge project construction and storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Mallard Road

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road for project construction and storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to modify the ramps and traffic pattern at the Interstate 95 and Route 3 (Exit 130) interchange in Fredericksburg to enhance safety. Motorists will encounter the following lane closures near Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or the Central Park shopping area.

Interstate 95 Southbound Exit 130B Ramp CLOSURE

(New) Sunday – Friday9 p.m. – 6 a.m. The I-95 southbound off-ramp to westbound Route 3 will be closed for paving work. During the closure, drivers will be detoured to the following off-ramp to eastbound Route 3 (Exit 130A) and proceed to the intersection of Rt. 3 and Gateway Boulevard. Once at the intersection, traffic can U-turn to access westbound Rt. 3. Message boards will be posted to notify drivers of the upcoming ramp closure. Signs will be posted along the recommended detour. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. The ramp will reopen by 6 a.m. the following mornings.

Route 3 at Carl D. Silver Parkway (Central Park’s Main Entrance and Exit)

(New) Sunday – Friday10 p.m. – 4 a.m. Drivers will be limited to a right turn in and right turn out ONLY at Central Park’s main entrance and exit to allow crews to work safely in the median and at the intersection for storm sewer installation. Virginia State Police will be present at the intersection and assist with traffic control.

Route 3 Westbound at Carl D. Silver Parkway

Sunday – Friday10 p.m. – 9 a.m. Left-most turn lane will also be closed on Route 3 westbound at the Carl D. Silver Parkway intersection for median work and storm sewer pipe installation.

Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137

The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137. Drivers can expect lane closures at the following dates and times:

  • I-95 Northbound:

Monday –Thursday9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

  • 9 p.m. – single lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • 4:30 a.m. All lanes open

Friday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closed

  • I-95 Southbound:

Monday – Thursday9 p.m. – 7 a.m.

  • 9 p.m. – single lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • 4 – 7 a.m. – single lane closed (All lanes open at 6 a.m. Friday)

Friday9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closed

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Thursday8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. –12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working near the I-95/Exit 140 interchange.

Monday – Thursday8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project.

Ramoth Church Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday8:30 a.m. –12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Ramoth Church Road from Courthouse Road to Dog Patch Lane for grading and pipe work. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Reids Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Reids Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone.

Rockdale Road

(New) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Rockdale Road between Courthouse Road and Kelvin Drive for tree clearing and grubbing operations.

Woodcutters Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive.

Wyche Road at Courthouse Road

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Wyche Road at Courthouse Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone. Flaggers will direct drivers at the intersection.

 

Districtwide Flashing Yellow Arrow Project

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be working at the following intersections to install flashing yellow arrows at several traffic signals in the Fredericksburg District to help drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Expect brief delays near the following intersections.

Stafford County

o   Route 1 and Route 628 (American Legion Road) and (Eskimo Hill Road)

o   Route 1 and Route 2188 (Port Aquia Drive) and entrance to St. William of York Catholic Church

o   Route 1 and Acadia Street

o   Route 3 and Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) and Route 607 (Jett Drive)

o   Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 1205 (Patton Drive) and entrance to Mt. Ararat Baptist Church

o   Garrisonville Road and Route 1208 (Furnace Road) and (Tech Parkway)

o   Route 684 (Staffordboro Boulevard) and VDOT Park & Ride commuter lot entrance and entrance to Stafford Marketplace shopping center

o   Route 684 (Mine Road) and VDOT Park & Ride commuter lot entrance

o   Mine Road and Route 1482 (Northampton Boulevard)

Stafford County Work Zones

Route 1 Southbound at Coachman Circle

(New) Thursday8 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane on Route 1 southbound to be closed to allow crews to install new pavement markings near Coachman Circle. A new traffic pattern will go into effect Friday morning after all lanes are open. Vehicles turning left from Coachman Circle can make a two-stage movement. Drivers can turn left into a channelized receiving lane to wait for a gap in traffic to safely enter into the Route 1 southbound lanes.

Route 17 Northbound

Sunday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect a single lane and shoulder closure on Route 17 northbound near the I-95 interchange at Exit 133/Falmouth to allow crews to take soil samples for the upcoming Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. Construction on the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing begins in late summer 2018.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Shenandoah Lane

(New) Sunday ˗˗ Saturday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane for a milling and paving operation. This work is connected to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)

Sunday – Monday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Centreport Parkway near the bridge approaches and on the bridges over I-95 for repairs. Expect brief delays.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) – vegetation control

 

Spotsylvania County Work Zone

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 126/Massaponax

(New) Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect a single lane to close close on I-95 northbound near Exit 126/Massaponax at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Crews continue repairs to the I-95 bridge over Route 1.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound underneath the I-95 bridge for ongoing repairs.

Route 1 Northbound and Southbound

Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound between Route 1486 (Market Street) and Fredericksburg City limits for milling and paving work. Expect temporary rough pavement and brief delays near the work zone. Virginia State Police assisting with traffic control.

Route 1 Southbound

Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 1 southbound between Route 749 (Old Telegraph Road) and Route 711 (Southpoint Parkway) for paving.  Expect brief delays near the work zone. Virginia State Police assisting with traffic control.

Route 3 Westbound

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 3 westbound between Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) and Montpelier Drive. Crews will be milling and paving. Expect temporary rough pavement and brief delays near the work zone.

Route 601 (Lawyers Road)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail installation near Route 653 (Jones Powell Road) intersection.

Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road) between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Patriot Lane for pipe work. Access to driveways will be maintained for residents who live in this section of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 616 (US Ford Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 616 (US Ford Road) near Route 610 (Elys Ford Road) and Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) for shoulder stone placement, pavement markings. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.

Route 621 (Orange Plank Road)

Monday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 621 (Orange Plank Road) near Route 611 (Windy Acres Drive) and Route 613 (Brock Road) for pavement markings, placement of shoulder stone. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone.

Route 628 (Spotsylvania Parkway)

(New) Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 628 (Spotsylvania Parkway) between Route 1 and Leavells Road for paving work and line striping.  Expect brief delays near the work zone.

Caroline County Work Zones

Route 301 Northbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 301 northbound near intersection with Route 608 (Lakewood Road). Crews will be patching the pavement and eradicating pavement markings ahead of upcoming paving work.

Routine Maintenance

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. –2:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) – ditch cleaning
  • Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) – shoulder repairs, tree removal
  • Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) – shoulder repairs, ditch cleaning
  • Route 738 (Anderson Mill Road) – ditch cleaning

Caroline County/King George County Work Zone

Route 301 at Rappahannock River (James Madison Bridge)

Monday − Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound near the James Madison Bridge over the Rappahannock River for a bridge maintenance project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
