Flooding spreads around Fredericksburg area

As rain falls across the region, flooding is closing area roads an affecting travel and activities around the region.

As of 10:24 Sunday morning, the USGS was predicting the Rappahannock River would crest at 16.7 feet on Monday morning. City Dock floods at 13 feet, and water starts encroaching on Old Mill Park’s east side when the river hits around 12-13 feet.

VDOT reports that part of Brooke Road in Stafford is closed, though some residents report being able to pass. There is also standing water on Shelton Shop Road and Courthouse Road in Stafford.

Several roads in Fauquier are also marked as closed, including Sumerduck Road.

Creeks in the Fredericksburg Battlefield Park along Lee Drive are swollen with water, and Landsdowne Road is accumulating water in low spots.

Rain is expected to continue in the city until around 7 tonight with a sunny forecast for Monday.
