Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford County and Spotsylvania County.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Aquia Creek at mile marker 145

The I-95 bridges over Aquia Creek are located just north of Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville) at mile marker 145.

I-95 Northbound

Sunday – Friday

  • 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed

I-95 Southbound

Monday – Friday

  • 9 p.m. – single lane closed
  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
  • Single lane remains closed until 7 a.m

Interstate 95 Paving  

I-95 paving improvements will be underway in Stafford on several sections of interstate between Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and the Prince William County line during July and August, and drivers can expect nighttime delays on SundayThursday evenings.

Sunday, July 8

  • Two lanes closed 11 p.m. – 4: 30 a.m.

Monday, July 9 – Thursday, July 12

  • Single lane closed at 9 p.m.
  • Two lanes closed from Prince William line to Aquia Creek bridge 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Paving work zone complete at 4:30 a.m.
  • Single lane remains closed at Aquia Creek bridge until 7 a.m.

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project is building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and is widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working near the I-95/Exit 140 interchange.

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project.

Monday7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Tuesday. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road near the Ramoth Church Road and Winding Creek Road intersection as Ramoth Church Road traffic is shifted onto a new alignment.

Ramoth Church Road

Monday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic shift. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Ramoth Church Road from Courthouse Road to Dog Patch Lane as Ramoth Church Road is shifted onto a new section of pavement. When the switch is complete by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Ramoth Church Road will intersect with Courthouse Road directly across from Winding Creek Road.

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Ramoth Church Road from Courthouse Road to Dog Patch Lane for grading and pipe work. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Snowbird Lane

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Snowbird Lane to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone for grading and pipe work.

Winding Creek Road

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road from Courthouse Road to Embrey Mill Road for pipe work.

Monday7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Tuesday. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road near Courthouse Road.

Woodcutters Road

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive.

Wyche Road

Monday – Thursday8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Wyche Road at Courthouse Road to allow trucks to enter and exit the work zone for grading and pipe work.

Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to modify the ramps and traffic pattern at the Interstate 95 and Route 3 interchange at Exit 130 in Fredericksburg to enhance safety. Motorists will encounter the following lane closures near Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or the Central Park shopping area.

Interstate 95 Northbound

Monday9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane to close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Crews are removing temporary lane markings on I-95 northbound to remove a temporary shift in the lanes.

Tuesday – Thursday9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure to remove temporary lane markings.

Interstate 95 Southbound Off-Ramp

Monday ˗˗ Thursday9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. I-95 southbound off-ramp to Route 3 westbound reduced to single lane. During the same hours, one of the right turn lanes at the traffic signal to westbound Route 3 will be blocked for paving work.

Route 3 Westbound

Monday ˗˗ Thursday9:30 p.m. – 9 a.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 westbound near Carl D. Silver Parkway for overhead sign installation.

Wednesday9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures on Route 3 westbound at Carl D. Silver Parkway intersection. Crews installing new pavement markings to align with traffic signals.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project is building a new I-95 overpass and will improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Interstate 95 Southbound

Monday9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Full overnight traffic stop on I-95 southbound with detour for installation of bridge forms and deck overhang. Single lane closure at9:30 p.m. Double lane closure at 10 p.m. All traffic stopped between midnight and 5 a.m. During the stop, I-95 southbound traffic will be detoured to take the Exit 118 exit ramp, cross Mudd Tavern Road, and enter the I-95 southbound entrance ramp. If weather cancels this work zone, it will be postponed to the evening ofTuesday, July 10.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Monday  Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday9 a.m. – noon. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) at the I-95 overpass for interchange and bridge project construction and storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Monday, 9:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mudd Tavern Road at the I-95 overpass for bridge project construction.

Mallard Road

Monday – Thursday9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road for project construction and storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Stafford County Work Zones

Route 631 (Bells Hill Road)

24-hour closure, Route 631 (Bells Hill Road) remains closed between Virginia Belle Drive and Belle Vine Lane for a slope failure and road damage caused by flooding. VDOT has identified a contractor and a project schedule and cost estimate is under development. VDOT will announce a schedule for re-opening the road as soon as it is available. Road closed barricades and detour signs have been posted to guide motorists. Bells Hill Road remains open at both intersections with Route 1. Travelers seeking to access destinations south of Belle Vine Lane should use the southern intersection of Route 1 and Bells Hill Road to reach their destination.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) and Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road) Intersection

Sunday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile lane closures at intersection of Garrisonville Road and Shelton Shop Road to allow crews to install traffic signal detection equipment in the pavement.

Route 648 (Shelton Shop Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect mobile single lane and turn lane closures on Shelton Shop Road between Garrisonville Road and Mountain View Road for paving. Crews will also be installing or repairing handicapped-accessible ramps at sidewalk locations.

Route 751 (Eustace Road)

Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and flagging operations on Route 751 (Eustace Road) between Embrey Mill Road and Garrisonville Road for paving. Expect brief delays near the mobile work zone.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect mobile single lane and turn lane closures on Eustace Road between Garrisonville Road and Gray Birch Lane. Crews will be installing or repairing handicapped-accessible ramps at sidewalk locations.

Route 1209 (Choptank Road)

24-hour closure, Choptank Road between Wood Drive and Furnace Road is closed for pipe repairs. Access to driveways on Choptank Road will be maintained. Message boards and signs will be posted to notify drivers of the road closure and detour. Project completion is anticipated in late August.

Routine Maintenance

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 17 (Warrenton Road) – vegetation control
  • Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) – pothole repairs
  • Route 608 (Brooke Road) – shoulder repairs
  • Route 612 (Hartwood Road) – vegetation control
  • Route 616 (Poplar Road) – vegetation control
  • Route 628 (Eskimo Hill Road) – pothole repairs

Stafford County/King George Work Zone

Route 218

Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Expect flagging operations on Route 218/White Oak Road between Route 606/Ferry Road in Stafford County and Route 600/Passapatansy Road in King George County for guardrail repair. Flaggers will direct one-way, alternating traffic at various locations along Route 218 in the mobile work zone. Expect brief delays.

Spotsylvania County Work Zones

Route 1

Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect mobile single lane closures at multiple locations between the City of Fredericksburg line and Old Telegraph Road, south of Spotsylvania Parkway. Crews will be installing pavement markers in recently paved sections of road.

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane and turn lane closures at multiple locations on Route 1 between the Exit 126 interchange and Route 208 (Courthouse Road). Crews will be repairing handicapped-accessible ramps at sidewalk locations.

Route 208 (Courthouse Road) Westbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Single lane closure near Route 639 (Leavells Road) for guardrail installation.

Route 609 (Jim Morris Road)

Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Jim Morris Road between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Patriot Lane for traffic signal work and paving. Access to driveways will be maintained for residents who live in this section of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 636 (Mine Road)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect mobile single lane and turn lane closures on Mine Road between Falcon Drive and Benchmark Road. Crews will be finishing paving and painting fresh pavement markings. Crews will also be installing or repairing handicapped-accessible ramps at sidewalk locations between Route 1 and Falcon Drive.

Route 673 (Piedmont Drive)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Single lane closure on Piedmont Drive near North Fawn Circle and South Royal Oaks Drive. Guardrail installation.

Routine Maintenance

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) – maintenance work
  • Route 635 (Lee Hill Drive) – vegetation control
  • Route 668 (Summit Crossing Road) – vegetation control
  • Route 1950 (Runnymeade Trail)- culvert rehabilitation

Caroline County Work Zones

Routine Maintenance

Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

  • Route 30 – tree removal
  • Route 301  – tree removal

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure. Expect alternating one-way traffic from the Westmoreland County line to Route 301 for milling, paving and pavement marking.

Route 218 (Caledon Road) and Route 609 (Comorn Road) Intersection

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Expect mobile lane closures and direction by flagging crew for guardrail installation on Route 218 (Caledon Road) at the Comorn Road intersection.

Route 301 (James Madison Parkway)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 301 (James Madison Parkway) at multiple locations for guardrail installation.

Route 301 (James Madison Parkway)

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closures on Route 301 near Ridge Road and Salem Church Road for pavement marking eradication and pavement patching.
