Battlefield Campfire Programs at Sunken Road

by | Aug 18, 2016 | Events

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service by reviving the tradition of park rangers telling stories around a campfire.

On three summer Saturday evenings, the park will present family-friendly campfire programs at the Sunken Road, next to the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center at 1013 Lafayette Blvd. in Fredericksburg.

Programs will explore the realities of darkness on the battlefields, the role of animals in the war — mascots, mounts, and pets — and the history of the National Park Service.

July 2 – Night on the Battlefield

July 30 – Companions in Battle: Animals of War

August 20 – Solemnity, Grandeur, and Everyday People:100 Years of National Parks.

All programs begin at 8 p.m. and will last about one hour. Park at the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and flashlights. All programs are family (and pet) friendly, free of charge, and open to the public. For more information, call 540-693-3200.
