Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont budget cuts could result in a two month closure to the public. Director David Berreth is hoping to prevent that.

“As you may be aware, the University of Mary Washington, of which Belmont is a part, had its annual state budget drastically reduced, Berreth wrote in an email newsletter. “Our own operating budget was reduced enough for us to consider closing to the public for up to two months. To forestall this and other cuts, I am making a year-end appeal.”

Tax-deductibel gifts or pledges to Belmont may be made at the historic site, located at 224 Washington St., Falmouth, or online at Belmont’s webpage.

Gari Melchers Home and Studio is one of just 30 artists’ spaces included in the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios consortium.
