The aquatic facility at Dixon Park has been renamed The Doris E. Buffett Pool.

City Council voted unanimously to make the change, in honor of the philanthropist whose donations provide free admission to the pool for City of Fredericksburg residents.

The aquatic facility at Dixon Park opened on July 1, 2006, as the first public pool in the City of Fredericksburg. During its first decade of service, Buffet has contributed $500,000 to fund admission to the pool for city residents. “Ms. Buffett’s generosity has provided for over 110,000 visits to the pool for city residents since its opening, which represents more than 80 percent of the pool admissions,” City Council’s proclamation read.

“Because of Ms. Buffett’s on-going support of the Dixon Park Pool, our children are safer around the water, adults and seniors have access to a free facility for physical fitness, families have a great, safe location to spend quality time together, and the activity level and sense of well-being in our community has increased.”

The Doris E. Buffett Pool is located in Dixon Park at 1300 Dixon St. The 46 acre park includes 1.5 miles of trails, athletic fields, nature preserve areas, playground equipment, and a jogging/walking trail.
