Eileen’s Bakery & Cafe took home top honors from the second annual Sandwich Invitational in Fredericksburg, held July 30 in Hurkamp Park, winning the $750 judges’ prize and title of Sandwich King.

Sprelly, the locally based handcrafted gourmet nut butter business founded in 2014 by Adrian Silversmith, won the People’s Choice Award for the second time.

“The concept of the sandwich invitational came to us from FoodE co-owners Joy and Beth, who saw a similar event on the West coast,” said Julie Perry, manager of the Fredericksburg Visitors Center. Each participating restaurant presents a specialty sandwich and competes for the $750 Sandwich King judges’ prize and the $500 People’s Choice Award.

The Sandwich Invitational is the kick-off of Fredericksburg Summer Restaurant Week. From July 31 – August 9, 2015, guests can choose 2 for $20 specials at 22 participating restaurants. A list of participating restaurants and sample menus are available online.
