Living History Event March 25 at Chatham Manor

by | Mar 13, 2017 | Events

The 28th Massachusetts Infantry (recreated), a famed regiment of the Union Irish Brigade, will hold its annual “camp of instruction” at historic Chatham Manor from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on March 25, 2017.

The event will recall the intense activity that surrounded Chatham through the spring and summer of 1862, when Union troops occupied the ground. During the Civil War, the plantation served as headquarters for Union generals and as a major Union field hospital

Exercises will include the basic manual of arms, marching in formation, essential maneuvers, and firing.

Infantry drill will begin at 10 a.m., with firing at intervals. Drill will continue until 4 p.m.

Historic Chatham Manor, located at 120 Chatham Lane in Fredericksburg, Virginia, was built in 1771. It is the only private home in America to have been visited by both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
