The National Park Service is offering two preservation workshops at the Salem Church Branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library. The first workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 28, will focus on how to preserve paper artifacts. The second workshop on Thursday, Oct. 6, will highlight preservation of textiles.

Both workshops begin at 7 p.m., and are free and open to the public. Salem Church Library is located at 2607 Salem Church Rd., Fredericksburg.

Luisa Dispenzirie, museum curator at the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, will discuss material types and what causes deterioration. She will demonstrate how to stabilize objects to prevent deterioration. She will also offer suggestions for what people can do at home to preserve their treasures. Attendees are invited to bring their own artifacts for evaluation.

These workshops are presented by the National Park Service in celebration of their Centennial.
