Submit Art for Downtown Fredericksburg Gift Cards

Artwork submissions for Fredericksburg Main Street Initiative’s  “Experience Fredericksburg” gift card contest are due by midnight, October 1, 2014.

The credit-card based gift card will be accepted at participating downtown businesses.  Fredericksburg Main Street Initiative (FMSI) plans to create four card themes.

 

The Four Themes

Holiday
Historic
Shopping and Dining
Celebrations (to be used for birthday’s, Mother’s Day, etc.)

Submission Requirements

Art submissions are due by midnight on October 1, 2014.
Each submission should convey of the four themes (listed above).
No more than four submissions per artist.
Submitted artwork should be no larger than 11 x 17.  The actual card size is 2.125 inches high and 3.375 inches wide.
All two-dimensional mediums are accepted.  Color is encouraged, but not required.
Only digital submissions in jpeg format will be accepted, with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side, maximum of 2400 pixels.

Awards and Publicity

A total of $1,000 in gift cards will be awarded to a combination of artists whose work is selected to appear on the four cards being designed. Prizes will be awarded in $100 and $200 increments. Artwork and artist(s) chosen will be promoted in the FMSI newsletter, in all press releases, and on the FMSI and Fredericksburg Downtown Facebook pages.

Jury

FMSI Executive Director Ann Glave, FMSI President Scarlett Pons and graphic designer Adam DeSio will judge all submissions.  Their final decision will be announced on Monday, Oct. 6,

“Due to the scale of the gift card, we reserve the right to use any part or all of the artwork submitted,” said Glave.  “We will do our best to maintain the quality of the art submitted, however some cropping may occur to maintain the quality of the gift card and artwork.”

By submitting your work, you agree to give FMSI the ability to use your artwork in marketing campaigns for the cards.

Gift Card Purchase and Use

The gift card initiative is to encourage residents and visitors to experience downtown Fredericksburg’s many shops, restaurants and galleries,” Glave said.

Gift cards will be available on-line, can be personalize, and can be used at more than one location.  They will be available to purchase beginning Friday, Nov. 7, at a variety of downtown locations.
