UMW Welcomes Class of 2020

An estimated 1,370 freshmen and transfer students moved into their dorms at the University of Mary Washington this week, in preparation for the start of the 2016-17 academic year on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016.

UMW President Troy Paino and his wife Kelly were among those greeting the new students. “When they come to campus on move-in days it reminds us all why we love what we do,” he said. “They bring with them all the excitement and promise of what is possible.”

According to the university:
– The expected freshman class of 989 students is 35 percent male and 65 percent female.
– The expected 381 transfer students include traditional transfers, adult-degree completion and nursing students.
– Overall, the incoming new students represent 21 states, the District of Columbia, and 12 foreign countries.
