Updated December 2 to the new location of Stafford Airport.

Stafford, VA – Stafford County, in partnership with the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County, will host a WWII veteran appreciation event from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at Stafford Airport, 95 Aviation Way, Fredericksburg, 22406. The event includes a free luncheon for each participant.

The veteran appreciation event is for veterans and their spouses and/or caretakers. A free luncheon for each participant is included. Veterans will receive custom commemorative medallions from the Virginia WWI and WWII Commemoration Commission. They will also receive honorary bricks to be placed in the future Stafford Armed Services Memorial.

Organizers request each veteran send a photo from their wartime service for a special slideshow.

The Virginia World War I and World War II Commemoration Commission, a co-sponsor of the event, will simulcast “Dawn of Infamy: America Goes to War” at the December 8 event.

“We are committed to supporting the Commonwealth of Virginia in their yearlong commemoration of World War I and World War II,” said Stafford Board of Supervisors Chairman Bob Thomas.

“According to the Veterans Administration, some 500 World War II veterans are dying each day,” said Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw. “We are running out of time to thank these veterans, and I am very proud for the City of Fredericksburg to be a part of this very worthwhile effort.”

Veterans are asked to contact Crystal Nicol at 540-658-4518 or [email protected] to RSVP by December 5, 2016.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4123 is donating the use of their lodge for the luncheon.
