Volunteer to Cheer at the Special Olympics Basketball Championships

More than 1,000 athletes with and without disabilities from across the Commonwealth will take to the courts in Stafford on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Special Olympics Virginia’s Basketball Championships.

The All-Star Friday Night Opening Ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Forge High School. It will feature a unified basketball game (where players with and without disabilities play on the same team), a half-time show, and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron.

On Saturday, competitions will take place all day, and will include full court games, half court games, individual skill drills, and unified games. Ten of the teams competing are from the local area.

Join the excitement and “Volunteer2Cheer” anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. March 25 at nine middle and high schools including:

Colonial Forge High School, 550 Courthouse Rd.
Dixon Smith Middle School, 503 Deacon Rd.
Drew Middle School, 501 Cambridge St.
H.H. Poole Middle, 800 Eustace Rd.
North Stafford High School, 839 Garrisonville Rd.
Stafford High School, 63 Stafford Indians Lane
Stafford Middle School, 101 Spartan Lane
Thompson Middle School, 75 Walpole St.
A. G. Wright Middle School, 100 Wood Dr.

Sign up today at www.volunteer2cheer.com Check-in will be at the “Volunteer to Cheer” table at each gym entrance.

Fans are welcome to stay for as little or as long as they like; cheering is very flexible and family-friendly. Even a short time is encouraging to the athletes.
