Winter Weather Advisory for Fredericksburg Area

by | Nov 25, 2014 | Weather

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for Fredericksburg, the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania and King George and north along the I-95 corridor into Arlington County. Rain beginning after midnight is expected to turn to a mix of rain and snow by 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26. The low Wednesday is expected to fall near 34 degrees. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible, the NWS said.

The rain and snow mix is expected to diminish Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day, with only a 30 percent chance of the wintry mix continuing Thanksgiving morning. The rest of the day should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 44 degrees.

A winter storm warning is in effect further north and west, and includes Waynesboro, Staunton and Front Royal and Winchester. The NWS predicts snow accumulations ranging from three to six inches in elevations below 1,500 feet, and from six to 10 inches in elevations above 1,500 feet. The heaviest snow is expected between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, and should end Wednesday afternoon.

Snow along Interstates 64, 81 and 68 “will have a significant impact on holiday travel plans,” the NWS said.
