5 Columbus Day Weekend Events

Here’s a selection of five events to enjoy over the three-day Columbus Day Weekend.

Belvedere Plantation Fall Festival
Fun for the entire family Friday through Monday, Oct. 10 – 14, 2014, including maize maze, pumpkin patch, zip lines, Pumpkin Mountain Slide, pedal carts, pony rides and more. Group rates available. Check the website for hours, prices and more information.

St. James’ House Tours
This historic circa 1768 home at 1300 Charles St. in Fredericksburg is a private residence, and thus only opened to the public two weeks every year. You can tour it from 1 – 4 p.m. through October 11, 2014. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6 – 18, and free for children under 6 and for Washington Heritage Museum members.

On the Road to Remember
The CUE Center for Missing Persons will stop in Fredericksburg on October 11 as part of their 11th Annual “On the Road to Remember” missing persons tour. The group will host a rally from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Business Park Complex, 4107 Plank Rd., to highlight missing persons cases.

Dancing with the Fredericksburg Stars
The second annual Dancing with the Fredericksburg Stars will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Dodd Auditorium on the University of Mary Washington (UMW) campus. The benefit will pair 10 regional community leaders with professional dancers from Strictly Ballroom Dance Studio in Fredericksburg, to compete for the People’s Choice Award and the top prize, the Mirror Ball Trophy. Tickets, available online, are $90, of which $75 is tax deductible. Seats are selected and reserved at the time of purchase.

Wine Tasting: Vines and Vistas at Belmont
Sip a glass of wine in the tranquility of the gardens and visit the studio galleries at Gari Melchers Belmont. Admission is $30 for non-members and $20 for Friends of Belmont, and Includes a wine glass and one wine tasting ticket. Reservations are requested at 540-654-1848.
