American Canoe Association Collegiate Championships in Fredericksburg

The Fredericksburg-based American Canoe Association (ACA) will host its annual Collegiate Race Series National Championships November 1 and 2, 2014.

Students from Warren Wilson College, Hollins University, Albion College, Sweetbriar College and the University of Alabama will meet on the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg to compete in individual and team events in canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, said Catharine Lloyd, ACA communications coordinator.

Race headquarters will be located at Old Mill Park, 2410 Caroline St. Whitewater races will start at the Virginia Outdoor Center, 3219 Fall Hill Ave., and paddle through the rapids to the Route 1 bridge. This section includes First Drop (class II+), Target Rock (class II) and Washing Machine (II) rapids. The flatwater races will run from Old Mill Park to City Dock, 207 Sophia St.
