Republican incumbent Rob Wittman won the First District seat and Dave Brat won in District Seven for the U.S. House of Representatives.
In an 11:45 p.m. speech from his Arlington, Va., campaign gathering, incumbent Mark Warner (D) claimed victory in the U.S. Senate race. Ed Gillespie (R), speaking minutes later, was not conceding. The race is so close, Gillespie could ask for a recount.
Wittman (R) had 62.96 percent to Norm Mosher’s (D) 34.47 percent. Independent Gail Parker received 2.43 percent of the vote.
Dave Brat (R) won with 60.92 percent of the vote. Jack Trammell (D) had 36.88 percent and James Carr (L) 2.09 percent.
The statewide constitution amendment overwhelming passed. The General Assembly will be allowed to exempt from taxation the real property of the surviving spouse of any member of the armed forces of the United States who was killed in action, where the surviving spouse occupies the real property as his or her principal place of residence and has not remarried.
