Norm Moser is the Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 1st District.  He was nominated June 7 at the First Congressional District Democratic Convention.
The retired Navy captain is a resident of Irvington, a town in Lancaster County on Virginia’s Northern Neck.
“I’m running because I’m seeing how Congress is dysfunctional — it’s not working at all,” Moser said in a press release.  “Our families, our communities and our Commonwealth are paying the price. People need to be able to look forward to the future. This means economic security for all — good jobs, good roads and good schools.”
Moser will face the winner of the June 10 GOP primary — either Rob Wittman or Anthony Riedel.
Moser’s 26-year Naval career included service in Vietnam. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Bronze Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Air Medal.
After retiring, Moser worked as a staff member for the Senate Armed Services Committee.
In 1990 he started his own consulting company, specializing in ocean research, shipbuilding, ship propulsion systems and related areas.
In 2001 he founded Crosswater Cats LLC.  His company develops and builds large power catamarans.  In 2005 he sailed the prototype catamaran to Bermuda in a West Marine powerboat rally.
Virginia’s 1st Congressional District is comprised of the counties and cities of Caroline, Essex, Fredericksburg, Gloucester, King and Queen, King George, King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Nothumberland, Poquoson, Richmond, Stafford, Westmoreland, Williamsburg, York, Fauquier (part), James City (part), Newport News (part), Prince William (part) and Spotsylvania (part).
