In honor of National Poetry Month, the Rappahannock Regional Library is sponsoring its annual Teen Poetry Contest.

Teens from Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania and Westmoreland in grades 7 through 12 are invited to submit up to three original poems. Out-of-region library cardholders may also enter.

Entries will be accepted April 1 – 14 via this online entry form.   There are two categories:  Grades 7 – 9 and Grades 10 – 12.

Amanda Rutstein, University of Mary Washington poetry professor and Fredericksburg Writing Center manager, will judge the entries.

Winners are awarded cash prizes and are invited to read their work at Teen Poetry Night, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 19.

National Poetry Month is held every April to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.  For more information, visit Poets.org.
