Fallen Marine Honored with Stafford Procession

Marine Sgt. Charles Strong will be honored with a procession through Stafford County on Tuesday, Sept. 23, when his body is escorted from Dover Air Force Base to Covenant Funeral Service in Stafford.

Sgt. Strong, a member of the Corps’ elite special command, was killed in Herat Province, Afghanistan, on September 15.

Beginning at about 3 p.m., the escort will travel through Stafford County on Route 3 to Cool Springs Road to Butler Road, then north on Route 1 to Covenant Funeral Service’s Stafford Chapel at 1310 Courthouse Rd.

Supporters and well-wishers are welcome along the procession route, said Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett.

Sgt. Strong is survived by his wife, Taylor Adams Strong; his unborn daughter, who is due in December; his parents, Donald and Mary; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Alice DeCosa; his brother, Jasen; his niece, Ryleigh; and his beloved dog, Theodore Maximus.

At the time of his death, Sgt. Strong was a Critical Skills Operator attached to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.  He had served in the Marine Corps since 2003.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. September 25 at Covenant Funeral Service Stafford Chapel. Burial will follow in Quantico National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. on September 24.
