Two Fredericksburg restaurants are included in the Virginia is for Lovers Culinary Madness Challenge, sponsored by the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

The Bavarian Chef Fredericksburg’s “Schweinshaxe” is included in Group Two Restaurants and Dishes.  Schweinshaxe is “tender braised pork shank [is] served on a bed of homemade sausage stuffing and topped with crispy onions.”

Foode’s ‘Fredericksburger’ is included in the competition’s Group Four Restaurants and Dishes.  “This burger starts with Auburnlea Farms’ grass-fed organic beef and is topped with sharp cheddar, bacon aioli and Blehneim Organic Gardens’ lettuce. It’s served on a seared Lyon’s Bakery brioche.”

The initial “vote off” in the Culinary Madness Challenge for all four groups is April 4 – 9.  “The top four vote-getters in each group will battle it out in the first-ever Virginia is for Lovers Culinary Madness bracket challenge,” the Virginia Tourism Corporation said.

Voting is planned in this order:

Savory Sixteen: April 10 – 14
Enticing Eight: April 15 – 18
Flavorful Four: April 19 – 23
Championship: April 24 – 28
Winner Announced: April 29

“You may vote for as many dishes as you like in each group, but you may only vote one time during the initial vote-off,” the instructions say. “Vote for any dish that you have enjoyed before, or just vote for whatever sounds delicious. Don’t forget to check out the detail page for each group prior to voting.”
