The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank has received a $21,000 grant from BJ’s Charitable Foundation.  The foundation awarded grants to 30 Feeding America-member food banks this month in celebration of the company’s 30th anniversary.

“The grants will support capacity building within the Feeding America network of local food bank members, a giving area that is often overlooked,” BJ’s said in a press release. Local agencies often have limited capabilities for safe holding and storing of perishable food donations. The funding will help supply equipment to shelters and food pantries, resulting in their increased capacity to provide nutritious options for hunger relief in each of the 15 eastern states where BJ’s operates.

Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks that fight against hunger in the United States.

The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank partners with grocers, food companies, the USDA and the community to obtain food and distribute it to more than 70 partner agencies and program partners across the George Washington Regional Commission Planning District 16, comprising the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford,

For every $1 donated, the food bank can provide three meals.  Donations may be made online.
