Medi Hospice Fredericksburg is seeking volunteers.

“We have patients who need volunteers to offer simple companionship, or to engage with books through reading, or to play simple card or board games. We need people who are willing to offer 1 – 4 hours per week,” the hospice said online. “Our patients are often lonely and isolated. They may have friends but those people are not comfortable with the dying process.

“Hospice is all about living, until the end. We endeavor to meet our patient’s physical, social, spiritual and emotional needs. Volunteers are friendly visitors who can listen with compassion. Volunteers can hold a patient’s hand or play an instrument to calm the soul.

“We need pet therapy animals and musicians who are willing to bring their unique flavor and talent to our hospice patients. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life of our patients and their families through the consistent presence of hospice volunteers.”

Volunteers receive 20 hours of comprehensive training, and are asked to commit to at least three months of service.  For more information and to apply, call 540-361-7696 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. Ask for the volunteer coordinator.

Medi Hospice Fredericksburg is located at 125 Olde Greenwich Dr.

Medi Home Health and Hospital Fredericksburg serves patients in the cities of Fredericksburg and Culpeper and the counties of  Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, Westmoreland,  Caroline and Orange.
