Dixon Park Pool is counting down the last days of summer with Labor Day Weekend swim hours and two special events the first week of September.

The pool is open 11:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, for swimming.  A photo ID is required for entrance.  City residents have free admission.  Guests and nonresidents pay a fee: adults 18 – 54 pay $7; children 2 and younger are free; all others pay $5.

Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation is hosting an #ALSIceBucketChallenge at the pool at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, to raise money and awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Parks & Recreation will provide the water and the ice, and participants need to BYOB — “Bring Your Own Bucket.”  Cost for participation is a donation in any amount.  All proceeds will be donated to The ALS Association DC/MD/VA.

The annual Soggy Doggy Swim is 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.  Admission is $5 for up two dogs. The event is open to dogs one-week of age and older.  All dogs must have current vaccinations.

T-shirts will be available for purchase for dogs and humans.  Registration forms are available online and at the Dorothy Hart Community Center, 408 Canal St.  Registration may be completed at the pool if the event is not filled.  Half of each registration will be donated to the Fredericksburg Regional SPCA.
Dixon Park Pool is located in Dixon Park, 1300 Dixon St., Fredericksburg.
