Join the Friends of the Rappahannock for their 2014 Spring River Clean-Up from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

The annual family event begins in Old Mill Park, 2410 Caroline St, Fredericksburg.  From there, volunteers disperse to clean trash from the Rappahannock River and nearby lands and streams.  The Friends of the Rappahannock provides supplies, site map and lunch.

Here’s the information from the group’s website:

REGISTRATION
Your registration helps calculate how many supplies and lunches are needed.

Group Registration: Please have one person register your entire group!  Please include the number of people in your group and the ages of anyone under  18.

If you have a site preference or have a site suggestion, please include this information with your registration.

All participants must sign the Liability Waiver Form.  All participants under 18 must have a Liability Waiver Form signed by a parent/legal guardian. If you are with a youth group, please download copies for the youths’ parents to sign prior to the event.  Bring the signed form to check-in at Old Mill Park.

All participants under 18 must have at least one chaperone on site during the cleanup.
For groups: one adult is required per every ten youth under the age of 18.

Weather Information:  If the weather in the morning is extreme (e.g. lightening & thunder), we may cancel.  In the event of a cancellation, we will email registered participants by 8 am on April 26th and will post the information on our website (www.riverfriends.org).

Lunch:  Registered participants will receive lunch at Old Mill Park.  We often have pizza, sandwiches or burgers.

Beverages:  Please bring your own reusable water bottle to reduce litter and waste.  We will have water coolers available to fill up your bottle.

Check-In and Clean-up Process:  At check-in at Old Mill Park, we will ask you for your final group number size and a liability waiver form for each participant.  If you have a large group, please only send a few representatives through the check-in line when all of your party has arrived.  You then will receive supplies (e.g. gloves, site map directions, and trash bags).  Be prepared to drive your entire group to your clean-up site.  Most sites are only a 5-15 minute drive from the Park.  If you can bring a truck, this will be helpful in transporting the trash back to Old Mill Park.  At Noon, return to the Park for lunch!

What to Wear:  Dress for the weather!. Sturdy shoes are a necessity (tennis shoes, boots) – sandals and flip-flops are NOT recommended.
