RIM Presents Free Advance Directive Workshop

by | Dec 13, 2014 | Health & Wellness

Recovery in Motion (RIM) is hosting a free advance directive workshop from 3 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17.  Amy Hanley, director of the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board Kenmore Club, is the presenter.  This workshop is open to everyone in the community.

“An advance directive (AD) is a legal document that lets the individual direct his or her future health care needs,” Tracy Ringquist, RIM co-director said.  “The document communicates health care choices and preferences to loved ones, medical and behavioral health providers.”

“ADs empower individuals to develop and map out personal recovery and crisis responses.  They allow for a person’s wishes regarding health care needs to be known even when the individual is unable to express those wishes at the time of the medical/mental health crisis.  Completing an advance directive facilitates an honest discussion about end of life care and crisis planning.  ADs also alleviate some potential burdens on loved ones by helping them to know an individual’s desires.”

Recovery in Motion is located on the second floor in the Goodwill Community Resource Center, 4701 Market St., Fredericksburg.  Email [email protected] or call 540-645-6042 to RSVP for the workshop.

Recovery in Motion (RIM), both an organization and a support center, offers a variety of supportive services, including support groups and one-on-one wellness coaching. No formal diagnosis is needed. Participation is free. Part-time paid staff is supported by an extensive group of peer volunteers.
