Fredericksburg’s fourth annual Summer Restaurant Week will kick-off with a new event for 2014.  Thirteen independently owned downtown restaurants will compete in the FXBG Sandwich Invitational from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.

“The concept of the sandwich invitational came to us from FOODE co-owners Joy and Beth, who saw a similar event on the West coast,” said Julie Perry, manager of the Fredericksburg Visitors Center.  Each restaurant will present a specialty sandwich and compete for the $750 Judge’s Prize and the $500 People’s Choice Award.

“There are certainly some culinary heavy’s in our restaurants, but we also have some newcomers participating,” Perry said.  The competitors are:

25 30 Espresso
The Bavarian Chef
Bistro Bethem
Brock’s Riverside Grill
Capital Ale House
Eileen’s Cafe and Bakery
Fizzlebottom’s
FOODE
J. Brian’s Tap Room
Kenmore Inn
Lizz Creative Juices
Mason Dixon Cafe
Sprelly

Tickets are $25 per person and include sample-size sandwiches from all 13 restaurants and beverages.  Ashleigh Chevalier and her band will be providing live music and there will be a free photo booth by Owik Pics to commemorate the event with family and friends, Perry said.

The Sandwich Invitational will be held in Hurkamp Park at William Street and Prince Edward Street.  Tickets are available at the Fredericksburg Visitors Center, 706 Caroline St.

During Summer Restaurant Week August 1 – 10, guests can choose 2 for $20 specials at 17 participating restaurants.  A list of participating restaurants and sample menus are available online.
