A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Fredericksburg region until 10 p.m. June 11, including the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George and Caroline.

From the National Weather Service:

“AT 639 PM EDT…DOPPLER RADAR DETECTED A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS
EXTENDING FROM 8 MILES SOUTH OF MADISON TO 10 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
MASSAPONAX…MOVING NORTH AT 25 MPH.”

Heavy rain will reduce visibilities to below one mile and cause pounding of water on roadways.

These thunderstoms are producing frequent cloud to ground lightning.  “If you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning,” the NWS said.  “Move indoors for your safety.”
