Workshops to Help Promote Your Business

The University of Mary Washington Center for Economic Development and the Fredericksburg Main Street Initiative are hosting two presentations and site visits to help businesses with promotion.

Virginia Small Business Development Center Retail Consultant Marc Wilson will be in Fredericksburg April 29 and 30 to share his expertise.
Art As a Business—Dispelling the Myths
Wilson will present “Art As a Business — Dispelling the Myths” from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Courtyard Marriott Fredericksburg Historic District, 620 Caroline St.

His presentation will address:

Sell your art without selling your soul
Define and engage your collector
Master merchandizing basics
Market and advertise your artwork
Build your brand
Create a social media presence
Embrace and understand the business side of selling your art

Windows, Signs & Visual Displays
Wilson will present a workshop about creating displays that draw customers and help make sales.  “Windows, Signs and Visual Displays” will be presented 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Courtyard Marriott Fredericksburg Historic District, 620 Caroline St.   The presentation will address:

Seven things your business’ appearance tells your customers
Do’s and don’ts for window displays
Common merchandising mistakes
Designing signs and collateral materials
Social Media and online marketing

Personal Visits
Wilson will also be available by appointment beginning at 1 p.m. April 29 for visits to local galleries and from 12 – 4 p.m. April 30 for personal consultations at your place of business.
