Dollhouses and Miniatures Show at Kenmore

A Wee Christmas at Kenmore dollhouses and miniatures show is on display in the Crowninshield Museum Building at Historic Kenmore Plantation through December 30, 2014. (It is closed December 24 and 25.) It will also be open for viewing during Kenmore’s Twelfth Night Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 3 and 4, 2015. See the website for details.

“This Christmas season, we invited the public to exhibit their dollhouse, room box, covered vignette or unique display for our new holiday exhibit,” said Susan Sherman, Historic Kenmore Plantation education assistant and volunteer coordinator. The George Washington Foundation owns an exact miniature of Historic Kenmore, furnished down to the china on the table and paintings on the walls, which is the centerpiece of the show. “We’re excited that our dollhouse will have a neighborhood during the Christmas season,” Sherman said.

Kenmore is located at 1201 Washington Ave. in Fredericksburg. Admission to Kenmore and the exhibit is $10 adults, $5 students, under 6 are free. Exhibit only admission is $5 adults, $2.50 students, under 6 free. Hours November through December are Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, Noon to 4:00 p.m. The last tour at Historic Kenmore begins at 3:15 p.m.

Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis, sister of George Washington, built Kenmore in the 1770’s. This house was originally part of a plantation of almost 1,300 acres.
