The second annual Spring Break Food Drive is scheduled March 9 – 22, 2015, at The Center for Faith and Leadership, 1514 College Ave., Fredericksburg. Donations may be dropped off 10 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12 – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

The drive is organized by U4C Victory Ministry, a group working to help eliminate youth and young adult homelessness in the Fredericksburg area.

“There are kids who live with their family in hotels and motels, in shelters, in cars and who “double-up,” moving from friend to friend,” said Ritta Armstead, president of U4C Victory Ministry. During Spring break and other school holidays, these children don’t receive the food provided by school programs, she said. The Spring Break Food Drive collects food items and works with area agencies to distribute the food to young people in need. Last year’s drive garnered more than 900 grocery bags of food.

Non-perishable meal and snack items are needed, including:
Breakfast and Granola Bars
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Microwave Mac & Cheese
Microwave Oatmeal
Ravioli and Spaghetti O’s (pop tops)
Mixed Nuts/Dried Fruit Mixes
Individual Boxes of Raisins
Fruit Cups/Applesauce Cups
Microwave Popcorn – Low butter/sodium
Juice Boxes/Sports Drinks/Bottled Water
Pudding Cups
Snack crackers (Goldfish, Teddy Grahams, etc.)

Volunteers are also needed 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, March 23, to bag the items. For more information or to volunteer, call Ritta Armstead at 540-220-0550 or Carey Sims at 703-395-9750.
