FREDericksburg Regional Transit Proposes Increases, Half Fares

The City of Fredericksburg will hold a public hearing on proposed fare changes for FREDericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) during the May 26 City Council Meeting in City Hall Council Chambers, 715 Princess Anne Street. Enter through the lower level doors on Hanover Street.

“The hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as possible,” city staff said. Fare Increase
The proposed fare increases would apply in all jurisdictions served by FRED: the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford and Caroline. The proposed increases are summarized below, and would go into effect on July 1, 2015.

The $35 basic service monthly pass would increase to $40.

The $200 basic service annual pass would increase to $225.

The $45 VRE service monthly pass would increase to $50.

Under the proposal, the charge for basic service per boarding ($1.00) and VRE feeder service fare per boarding ($1.50) would remain unchanged.

Off-Peak Half Fare Program
Simultaneously, FRED would implement an off-peak, half fare program to:

All persons age 65 and over
All person evidencing disabilities or incapacities
Medicare recipients.

Off-peak service is 4 – 7 a.m. and 8:01 p.m. – 1 a.m. Monday through Friday.

FRED’s Saturday and Sunday service during the University of Mary Washington academic year — August through April — is also designated as off-peak service.
