Fare Increase
The proposed fare increases would apply in all jurisdictions served by FRED: the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford and Caroline. The proposed increases are summarized below, and would go into effect on July 1, 2015.
The $35 basic service monthly pass would increase to $40.
The $200 basic service annual pass would increase to $225.
The $45 VRE service monthly pass would increase to $50.
Under the proposal, the charge for basic service per boarding ($1.00) and VRE feeder service fare per boarding ($1.50) would remain unchanged.
Off-Peak Half Fare Program
Simultaneously, FRED would implement an off-peak, half fare program to:
All persons age 65 and over
All person evidencing disabilities or incapacities
Medicare recipients.
Off-peak service is 4 – 7 a.m. and 8:01 p.m. – 1 a.m. Monday through Friday.
FRED’s Saturday and Sunday service during the University of Mary Washington academic year — August through April — is also designated as off-peak service.
