Project budget for a proposed minor league baseball stadium in Spotsylvania County. Slide from the presentation.

By Susan Larson

After more than six hours of discussion with baseball representatives, the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors voted 6-1 for a 60 day delay to a vote on financing a minor league baseball stadium. The original deadline to complete the deal was May 31.

Hagerstown Sun representatives told the supervisors they didn’t think the National Baseball Association (NBA) would grant the extension. Board Chairman Chris Yakabouski said without more time, the county will have to walk away.

The proposed stadium would be in the Massaponax area, just off I-95. Under the current deal, the EDA is to provide a $25 million capital contribution, and the team would contribute $8 million, bringing the total to $33 million in construction costs.
